What To Wear On A Beach Break

If you are a regular reader of my blog, you probably won't be surprised by how much I enjoy remote, quiet and peaceful locations. It gives me time to think and stay inspired. I try and avoid spending most of my week days indoors, on my laptop, answering emails. This get's me nowhere - I am very much someone who loves to explore, and any opportunity to take my camera somewhere new, the better. Today, I wanted to share with you guys what I wear for a beach break abroad or at home - the same rules apply. Long gone are the days when I reached for mini shorts and vest tops. Over the last few years, when the warmer weather has come to say hello, I've tried to keep my beachwear sophisticated, yet cool.

I recently stumbled on some old beach photos from my teenage years, and it's fair to say my standard uniform was a pair of mini shorts, a halter neck top and some flips flops! Wasn't it everyone's? It was very much the Californian beach look, and it was the coolest thing to wear when temperatures went over the 20 mark. But now that I'm into my twenties, I've started wearing longer shorts and smarter tops - and you can get away with this even when it's incredibly warm. It's all about the fabric. I couldn't be without my silk, linen and viscose! If you can find a cool fabric combined with a loose fit, it can look really sophisticated and effortless, with the bonus effect of feeling super comfortable.

As I mention a lot on my blog, I like to invest in pieces that will keep year after year, and that you can pair with different pieces. I regularly invest in whites - because they go with absolutely everything. It makes me feel good and it has the desired effect of accentuating your tan, which is always a good thing right!? Even though I don't always necessarily have the weather on my side in the North of England, whites make an outfit look and feel very summery. I cannot get enough of this simple safari style White Sleeveless Silk Shirt with these gorgeous and totally appropriate White Shorts. They have become huge staples in my wardrobe this summer, and they're great to mix and match with the rest of your wardrobe.

Accessories are one of those things that carry sentimental value. A lot of the jewellery I wear on a daily basis marks someone or something special in my life and so I like to take them everywhere with me. They can also make even the simplest of outfits look a little bit more interesting! Let's be honest, beaches can be messy regardless of the country, so I usually pack a handbag that can stay out of the way, usually over the shoulder. This Karen Millen Leather Bag has been perfect for carrying my essentials: my tortoise shell Le Specs sunglasses, these Nude Mid Heel Sandals to take me into the evening and this new Chanel Stylo Lipstick (Shade 218 Script) which I picked up last weekend and cannot stop wearing! I like to keep it simple and sophisticated, and I love making my accessories work with any outfit, for any occasion.

What are your favourite beach outfits? Let me know if you guys have any other beach must-bring items and packing tips?
