How To Book The Perfect Weekend Getaway

Ask me any day and I would jump at the opportunity of going on a weekend spa retreat. I have always loved this kind of getaway and I couldn't think of anything more relaxing. I recently visited the stunning Gisborough Hall in North Yorkshire, which is a truly beautiful hotel. I sometimes find it hard to pin down the good hotels when I'm looking for somewhere to stay, so today I wanted to share my guide to what I look for in hotels, what I pack, what I get up to and why I couldn't recommend it enough if you're in need of a break and want to get away!

I look for a relaxing countryside retreat, because I like the atmosphere and the peace and quiet. I lead quite a busy and on-the-go lifestyle back home, so it's important for me to find time to wind down on a weekend retreat. I like to find somewhere where I can relax in the mornings, drink my morning coffee and read a magazine, particularly outdoors. Even when I'm visiting a city, I usually opt for a countryside retreat a little outside the city - I have always loved country estates! They are my guilty pleasure... They are also a lot cheaper than a break abroad, and I find them just as fun, especially if you have the weather on your side!

I am a huge fan of Karen Millen, and have worn the brand for several years now. This weekend I brought along this gorgeous Faux-Suede Safari Dress and paired it with their matching tan Leather Espadrille Wedges and Leather Colour-Block Sling Bag. I really love how comfortable this dress feels, and you can style it up or down with heels or flats. Whenever I go for a weekend away, I don't like to overpack and this dress has taken me from morning to evening. I often take away a base outfit with me, and use shoes and accessories to style it for different parts of the day. This smart casual dress is such a great base outfit and if you're looking for that perfect summer getaway dress, their Safari Dress is a new summer favourite of mine!

Food is something I really enjoy. Breakfast on the terrace with a latte and a copy of PORTER and my morning will already be complete! I enjoy the downtime, but I love organising country walks as well, whether that's around the estate or in the local area. If you haven't ever visited Yorkshire, it's a beautiful place. York and Harrogate being my favourite cities, but also the countryside is so picturesque. I always pack my Barbour and Hunter wellies which I wore and talked about the importance in taking time out in a recent blog post. Spa treatments are another favourite of mine. If you're staying in a hotel that offers spa treatments, whether that's a massage or a facial - they really are stress relieving and totally worth it!

I really enjoy reading other people's blogs and getting inspired, and I love to see what people get up to on a weekend away. I personally have always been into country relaxing breaks but you can easily find similar spa retreats in the city! I would recommend booking in advance because the days/weeks/months leading up to your break are always the most exciting! It's always nice to remind yourself that you have something booked and to look forward to.

If you're planning a spa retreat this summer, what kind of break will you be having? What do you guys tend to wear to a hotel retreat?
